Accreditation Requirements
Battery & Inverter
- ✔Must be on CEC approved product list
- ✔Tested by IEC or JAS-ANZ accredited body
- ✔Lithium-based batteries meeting standards
Installer
- ✔SAA (Solar Accreditation Australia) accredited
- ✔Licensed electrician in relevant state/territory
- ✔Compliance with electrical safety regulations
Virtual Power Plant (VPP) Capability
On-grid battery systems (including inverter) must have the technical capability to participate in a VPP. Participation is not required, but the capability must be present.
VPP Capable Requirements:
- ✔Can connect to electricity grid and external entities
- ✔Can communicate via remote signals
- ✔Has communications protocol for external control
Important Notes:
- ⓘOff-grid systems don't need VPP capability
- ⓘVPP participation requires ongoing internet connection
- ⓘOff-grid sites can still install VPP-capable batteries
Installation Requirements
Installation Date
Battery systems installed on or after 1 July 2025 are eligible for support.
Solar PV Integration
Battery can be installed with existing solar PV or new system (under 100 kW capacity).
Written Statements
Retailer, designer, and installer must provide written statements to CER and consumer.
